Coast to Coast with Saddle Skedaddle – Guides Les Hadden, Jayne Cunningham and new guides Francies and David.
My highlight of this trip was the proof that any ability rider can complete the C2C …Although it’s always nice to have your legs and *top two inches) prepared for those cheeky climes.
Our Route began in Whitehaven…Sort of?! it actually began at the Hub Skedaddles HQ in Newcastle.
It was my first time at the Hub, and my first sight (leaving the Hub to reci the end of the route) was Fran’s big smile. Fran is one of the ops team that makes Saddle Skeddadle FANTASTIC!!!
Fran is a marketing genius and helps to bring saddle skedaddle to your virtual front door so that your doors are opened to the big wide world of skedaddling cycling adventures.
Thank you, Fran because your big welcoming smile and hug through the window of the car (it was chucking it down, with rain), shook off the nervousness I was feeling.
After My little ride up the cycleway, Les Hadden (Lead Guide on the trip); arrival was perfect. Dripping wet through, off to the office we both went ( sorry, hope I didn’t make too much of a mess) to start our induction to beginning a ride from the Hub ( Previous trips I’ve guided have started from the stores at Penrith).
It was really lovely to see where the Ops team work, as guides we normally only see the whole team at Guides week ( see my other Blog)
In the spirit of giddiness, a little message was added to on the fridge magnets…
Fully sustained with mashed Avacado on Soda bread from the Hub Cafe.
Les Hadden, Francis, who had now arrived, and I, all went off to do some real work, Important stuff like looking through the trip notes as a team, Loading bikes onto the trailer, the Supermarket shop, for all the Tea’s Coffee’s and snacks, and Picnic lunches…
And the with plenty of time to spare, drive to the Hilton Hotel to meet the Customers, our team off adventures for the next four days
As the Team of 14 customers arrived sporadically, we all got to chat and know each other. I make a good pack horse, which came in handy as the lift at the Hilton was out of order! So strength training for the week began on the from the Basement of the Hilton car park…

14 customers, CHECK, all bags CHECK, all bikes loaded CHECK… and off we go to ‘ nope not White haven’, but a taxi and Skeddaddle van transfer to Threlkeld. (and power nap for me)

Threlkeld, a lovely village, and a nice B and B Breakfast pub was our accommodation for Two nights…
How does that work I hear you puzzle!?
Well at Dinner our 14 Guests, chatted over dinner, and as guides, we imparted how the trip was gonna work, Basically, their job is to enjoy riding bikes, and breathing in the breathtaking views, our job spoils ’em rotten, and guide them all from coast to coast!
So with an early start of 7.30 at breakfast and an early transfer over to Whitehaven.
I was driving the transfer bus, with trailer, the pressure ;-)….
But it was O.K because I had Les to back seat drive, always incredibly helpful !??? lol.
A lucky few were in the taxi transfer.
We all arrived safely at Whitehaven, snacks were handed out, bikes M checked, safety briefings were given, defiantly shouldn’t of mention that cyclists like to dip their front wheel into the ‘drink’ at Whitehaven because Juliet got more than her front wheel in! Oops.
And with that, the trip begins…
Greystoke – For morning break- Home of Tarzan.
Great food and Beer.
Garrigill-Detour for the extra hardcore.
Cheeky climbs with ATTITUDE!!!
Made it to the top!All smiles…
And extra miles in the legs for me after doing hill reps up and down.
And the sun has come out!!!!
Blue skies- Wind behind us-down hill.
Gary rolled down the hill to the finish of the C2C
